COTA’s Plan to Connect Central Ohio With Sidewalks, Bikeways and Trails

Central Ohio is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, on track to grow to over 3 million residents by 2050. To address this growth, COTA’s plan would invest in more than 500 miles of sidewalks, bikeways and trails across its service area by 2050, modernizing and expanding our transportation system.

These historic investments will:

  • Make it safer, easier and more convenient for pedestrians and bicyclists to get around
  • Connect and create more walkable neighborhoods and communities

A Historic Investment in Sidewalks and Trails

COTA’s plan would be an unprecedented and historic investment in creating walkable, bikeable and connected communities. An average of $60 million a year would be invested in building safe bike and pedestrian connections in our community.

This is double the amount of funds our region currently has to invest in these types of connections.

WHAT’S NEXT?

By 2030, COTA’s plan would:

  • Double the current regional investment in sidewalks and trails to more than $250 million
  • Fund more than 150 miles of new sidewalks, trails and bikeways
  • Invest in projects in 35 jurisdictions, including 55 multi-jurisdictional projects
  • Improve access to transit for more than 140,000 people
  • Build more than 80 projects, including sidewalks, bike paths, greenways and trails, safer crosswalks and upgraded bus stops
