Studies have found that higher gas prices typically do not prompt new expansion and funding for public transit. COTA rides have fallen drastically since the pandemic, and “will take time to build” out new transit options due to high starting costs and lack of employees, as stated by City Council Representative Shannon Hardin. The LinkUS initiative is attempting to fight this and provide a more sustainable model for the city at an affordable price.
